Washington DC Trip 2019
Valerie and I attended the Symposium in Honor of Suzan Harjo last week in Washington DC at the National Museum of the American Indian. Speaking in her honor was also Jodi Archambault and Mary Katheryn Nagle who are also featured on our "Warrior Women" Buffalo Horn Belt.
The next day (Sept. 21st) was the groundbreaking for the National Native American Veterans Memorial at the NMAI. Saying the opening prayer and blessing for the memorial was Tipiziwin Tolman, also on the belt, and her husband T.
We were able to get 4 of the women together for a photo shoot standing next to the belt that is on permanent display. All these women have such amazing stories and to have them honored with their images being displayed in the Smithsonian is historic.
Also, while we were there US Rep. D- Sharice Davids, Kansas, agreed to meet with us and view the "Warrior Women ll, Finding Their Voices, Buffalo Horn Belt where she is included with her portrait along with US Rep. D- Debra Haaland, New Mexico who also met with us to see her portrait. We so EXCITED to meet in person with these beautiful and powerful women who are standing up for Native women and Native rights and us all.
It was an awesome trip for us to meet such influential people and be a part of history.
We pinch ourselves sometimes and are always grateful for the opportunities that our art has given us.
Thank you all for your support and following along on out adventures.
