SWAIA 2025 was truly a day to remember for award-winning Oglala Lakota artist Kevin Pourier, whose bold vision and deep cultural storytelling continue to captivate audiences from around the world. This year’s showcase was no exception — and the energy surrounding his work was powerful from start to finish.

A Second-Place Win for Buffalo Horn Mastery

One of the highlights of the day was the well-deserved Second Place Ribbon awarded to Kevin’s extraordinary buffalo horn cups. Known for transforming traditional materials into breathtaking contemporary art, Kevin once again demonstrated why his craftsmanship stands in a class of its own.

The intricacy, polish, and spiritual depth embedded in each cup drew crowds throughout the show. Visitors paused, asked questions, admired the rich textures, and left with a deeper appreciation for the legacy carried through these remarkable pieces.

“Be Fierce” — A Powerful Portrait Seen by Many

Kevin’s striking “Be Fierce” portrait of Secretary Deb Haaland may not have taken home a ribbon this year, but it certainly made an impression. Bold, unapologetic, and visually commanding, the piece sparked conversation and admiration from all who passed by.

Sometimes the win isn’t in the awards — it’s in the visibility, the connection, and the cultural pride that radiates from the work. And on that front, “Be Fierce” delivered.

Proudly Representin’ Northern Plains Style

As always, Kevin brought the unmistakable strength and elegance of Northern Plains style to the forefront. His display was cohesive, vibrant, and deeply rooted in Lakota artistry — a perfect reflection of who he is and the stories he is committed to sharing.

From the craftsmanship to the cultural representation to the steady stream of visitors, SWAIA 2025 reminded everyone why Kevin Pourier’s work continues to rise, inspire, and lead.

Looking Ahead

With another successful showing in the books and new admirers gained along the way, Kevin moves forward with momentum, pride, and excitement for what’s next.

Congratulations on a great day, Kevin — and here’s to many more!
